Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior official commented the attack made him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
