Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's first championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since March of that year.

Success also means he has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, comprising in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on the playing surface had led commentators to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first ATP Tour title, took control to create a decider.

Moutet saved four early break points in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
