The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Producer to Boost Challenged Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Change Follows Mixed Reception

Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified staff about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a more defined direction.

The president noted that the team is now reimagining the project with a revised vision, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

Trend of Strategic Acquisitions

The news follows a comparable move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the entire text from Ismailer's memo:

Team—

I understand you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a update, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to persist.”

With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The community feedback from last fall’s the game playtest was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the necessity for a sharper vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s positioned to deliver on its potential to our players.

The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Studio Head of the team. Following several months of talks, he comes aboard us on next week.

His guidance and experience in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having dedicated the last 15 years developing and managing some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in greeting him next week. We are all excited to persist observing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to follow.

David

Background of the Incoming Leader

Brinkman earlier was employed at major gaming companies in various development positions on the iconic franchise series, and, prior to that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Information and Concept

The upcoming game was announced in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting evolution on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the official summary states. "Face the rivals with fresh skills, risks, and challenges that shift every session. Will you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Or take a risk, risk it all, and trust your group can secure victory? The decision is yours."

The game lacks an official launch window or platforms, but enthusiasts can expect additional details as development continues.
